Ana Ganho-Ávila

Ana Ganho Ávila, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist and specialiist in clinical and health psychology, as well as psychotherapy. In 2016, Ana completed her PhD in basic psychology, focusing on the neuropsychophysiological correlates of anxiety. Her post-doctoral research was been dedicated to studying the neuronal correlates of mood and anxiety disorders, as well as exploring the potential of non-invasive brain stimulation for these clinical conditions.

Since 2018, Ana has been particularly interested in studying the neurocognitive profiles of peripartum women and investigating the applicability of non-invasive brain stimulation in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, in combination with evidence-based psychological interventions. Currently, Ana is a fellowship recipient from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology and serves as a researcher at the Research Center in Neuropsychology and Cognitive Behavioral Intervention [CINEICC] at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at the University of Coimbra, Portugal.

Furthermore, Ana plays an active role in the scientific community. She served as the Chair and Scientific Representative of the COST Action “Research Innovation and Sustainable Pan-European Network in Peripartum Depression Disorder” (2019-2023) and is currently a member of the Management Committee of the COST Action “Maternal Perinatal Stress and Adverse Outcomes in the Offspring: Maximising infants´ development” (2023-2027), both funded by the COST Association of the European Union. Additionally, she holds the position of Secretary in the European Society for Brain Stimulation.

Ana has also contributed as a co-author to various national and international articles and book chapters, mainly focusing on the fields of perinatal mental health and non-invasive brain stimulation. She is an Advisory Board Member at the International Journal of Clinical and Health Psychology and serves as a Review Editor for Neurostimulation at Frontiers in Psychiatry.
